Burgundy, a region internationally renowned for its wines produced from Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, also includes the Beaujolais region with its fruity and spicy wines and the Chablis region with its dry and mineral wines known by wine lovers. With its capital Dijon, famous for its mustard and its Dukes of Burgundy, Burgundy is a region with a rich past that offers a continuous invitation to the quest for the senses that we propose you to (re)discover.

Here are our 5 tips to visit this beautiful region.

  • Step back in history at the Hospices de Beaune !

The Hospices de Beaune is a gothic style Hôtel-Dieu with a typical Burgundian glazed tile roof. The history of the Hospices de Beaune goes back to 1443 with the will to build a hospital (Hôtel-Dieu) to welcome people suffering from frequent illnesses of the time. The originality and the typicity of this monument make it a place known throughout the world which invites the travelers to cross its doors. It is a must-see in the region, which we obviously advise you to visit, even if you won’t see any wine cellar and wines except in the store… At the rate of 10€ per adult, you can visit the museum of the hospices on your own. The charity sale of the Hospices de Beaune is an event not to be missed by wine lovers and is broadcasted live every year throughout the world.

To stay on site : Les maisons de Chamirey : Come and recharge your batteries in Burgundy in a manor house fitted out to receive you in their gîtes. You will also be able to taste the wines of the family’s domains located all over Burgundy, from the Côte de Nuits to the Côte Mâconnaise.

  • Follow the Route des Grands Crus from Dijon to Beaune

Amateurs or not, it’s time to discover the Route des Grands Crus and learn a little more about Burgundy wines. 38 picturesque wine villages open up to you over a length of 60km. To find your way around, the road is marked by brown signs with a white cluster. Take the opportunity to discover unusual places, visit vineyards, cellars, learn more about the productions and taste the wines of the region that you could not find at home. Please note that many visits and tastings must be booked in advance.
Discover pinot noir, one of the most famous grape varieties in Burgundy but also in the world, as well as chardonnay, a white grape variety native to Burgundy.

Domaine Cluny : In Burgundy, Camille and Léa Cluny welcome you between Beaune and Dijon to the Domaine Cluny in a gîte fitted out in an old family house in the heart of the village of Brochon, in the Côte de Nuits, just a stone’s throw from the vines of Gevrey-Chambertin. The gîte, which can accommodate up to 8 people, has four bedrooms, a bathroom with Italian shower, a garden and a terrace.

Hôtel Villa Louise : The Perrin family welcomes you to this charming hotel located in Aloxe Corton, north of the Côte de Beaune and a few minutes from the famous hospices. A moment of calm and charm in the heart of one of the most famous vineyards in the world.

Clos du Grand Bois : The two winegrowers, Joseph and Anthony Lafarge (father and son), have set up five guest rooms (for 2 to 5 people) as well as five oeno-tonneaux, atypical accommodations designed for 4 people, in the Clos du Grand Bois, their southern Burgundy estate.

  • Open the doors of amazig castles 

You will find in Burgundy a great number of castles that open their doors to you by presenting a unique history and an atypical architecture. After the monks, great wine producers for their churches, the castles were the first to produce wine and therefore to have vineyards. Monuments listed on the UNESCO World Heritage List, great natural sites, historical and architectural sites… so many proposals to discover to learn more about the history of the region and its cultural and wine heritage.

To stay on site : Château de Pierreclos: Anne-Françoise and Jean-Marie Pidault are at the head of Château de Pierreclos, an organic estate located in Saône-et-Loire, straddling the terroirs of Pouilly-Fuissé, Saint-Véran and Mâcon. The castle, listed as a historical monument, is close to the Abbey of Cluny and the Roche de Solutré.

  • Take a big breathe in Jura Region !

Discover the department of Jura and its magnificent landscapes. Whether in summer or in winter, the Jura has a great charm with its cirques, its waterfalls, its meadows, its cows, its cheeses, its small villages along the river …. It is also here that Louis Pasteur lived as a child and that he will come back to confirm his work on alcoholic fermentation. A small museum in the house of his parents is dedicated to him in Dole, to visit without fail and after his visit, enjoy a lunch with a yellow wine of the Jura along the river at the exit of the museum.
A family destination and a sort of pilgrimage to make once in a lifetime for all wine lovers.
