Dominique Bouillard, wine maker in the vineyard of Brouilly
Dominique is daughter and grand daughter of a winemaker and for her it was logical to take over this family estate and to bring her personal touch by enlarging the vineyard by an additional 2ha to a surface of 6 ha which she manages absolutely alone from the management of the vineyard to the vinification and at the sale of his wines. How a little in all the villages of Beaujolais, its vineyards follow the surrounding hills a few minutes from Lyon on 4 different appellations including 2 Crus du Beaujolais:
- the Crus : Brouilly and Côte de Brouilly
- villages appellations : Beaujolais and Beaujolais-villages
Dominique has also fitted out the cottages for your comfort: a 3 épis «Gîtes de France» with 3 bedrooms on the same ground as her property and surrounded by vineyards, located in the heart of the village of Odenas, a hilly village where a few castles follow one another. The spirit: simplicity, fireplace, wooden furniture, terrace overlooking the vineyards. Villefranche-Sur-Saône is just 12 km away, Lyon 45 km away and the villages of Saint Amour, Fleurie, Morgon, Julienas, other Beaujolais wines are to be discovered during your stay. The clientele is mostly represented by French or European couples coming together to have a good time together.
My favorite places by Dominique Bouillard
« I am located 3kms from Mont Brouilly so this is really something I recommend to my visitors. To go to see it already with its rounded summit and why not to climb it, the walk is magnificent and at the top there is a small chapel and a magnificent view of the whole Beaujolais region. Moreover, the region has been classified geopark since 2018 for its geology, its landscapes. This brings us many foreign visitors especially because they are interested in discovering places where the environment is preserved and highlighted.
Also I recommend to visit the Hameau des Vins de Georges Duboeuf. It is very well staged with films, animations, tastings. The whole well represents the wine region of Beaujolais. Finally, it is necessary to visit the small village perched of Oingt in Golden Stones (also called Little Tuscany). The village is classified one of the most beautiful villages in France. There are many artisans and I love the small houses with yellow ochre facades. And of course if my visitors have the time I invite them to discover the different villages of the Crus Classés du Beaujolais by tasting the wines of the winemakers of course. »
My favorite market by Dominique Bouillard
« I really like the market of Châtillon sur Chalaronne on Saturday. It is really pretty and in the heart of this small medieval town. You can discover local products: cold cuts, andouillette cheeses, gratons and brioché sausage. Châtillon belongs to the Bresse so you can taste the Bresse specialties including the famous tart made with sugar and cream a real treat! But also the Bresse chicken, of course. Right next door is the Belleville Fair to discover too. A little further on there is also the Villefranche market, which is also the largest in the region. »
The best way to visit Beaujolais by Dominique Bouillard
« I think hiking is one of the best ways to discover our region. There are many hiking trails that will delight amateurs! I know that it is also possible to do a tour in 2CV it is quite atypical. There are also friends guides in Beaujolaise land that allow you to discover the vineyards and the region. They are connoisseurs and lovers of the region and they know how to guide people according to their desires. They have walks related to art, nature, castles… It’s very interesting. And of course if my visitors have the time I invite them to discover the different villages of the Crus Classés du Beaujolais by tasting the wines of the winemakers of course. »
The visitors of Dominique Bouillard
« In general it is couples either alone or 2 or 3 couples friends who meet at my home. They usually come from France but I also have a lot of Belgian, Dutch clients. They appreciate the tranquility of the place, the fact that they can each be independent at home during their stay but also be able to meet on the terrace facing the vine and prepare a barbecue after a tasting of my wines is a must do. »
